Find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about my voiceover services below.
Do you have recording facilities of your own or do you need to record with us?
I have a home studio with purpose built vocal booth and 2 professional condenser microphones, Neumann U87 & Rode K2. I am happy to self record, or you can ‘dial in’ to live direct me by way of Skype, Source Connect, Zoom, Clean Feed… or good old fashioned telephone. Travelling to a studio of your choice for voiceover work also works for me.
What information do you need in order to get started on a job?
The main information I need is the following; how many words does your script contain? If you don’t have this information yet then please tell me how many minutes the finished piece will be and we can go from there. A brief overview on what the script is for and where you intend to use the finished voice. When you need the work completed by? Vocal style and tone of the piece? authoritative, friendly, conversational etc etc. A clear, phonetic spelling of how you would like any non-straightforward words in your script pronounced. Some clients record unusual words on their phone and forward this on to me which can be helpful.
Clear instructions on pronunciation are particularly important for technical and medical voiceovers. Finally, let me know what file format you prefer (WAV, MP3, AIFF for example).
How much editing will you do?
Any files I deliver to you will be free from annoying background noise, clicks, pops, the cats meowing, and any other sound that has no place in a professionally recorded audio file! I can do as little or as much as you need, please just make it clear.
What accent will you use in my voiceover?
I can offer voice overs in a neutral British accent, or tap into my regional roots by offering soft Northern or soft Birmingham tones. I also offer character voices and accents for cartoon voice over work and web animations for example.
Do you offer proof reading?
Yes. You might be a small business with a lot on your plate, or perhaps English isn’t your first language. Whatever the reason, if you need an extra pair of eyes to go over the script to make sure it flows and reads well, I can offer this service.
How much do you charge for your services?
Every bit of voiceover work is unique and there are many factors to take into consideration when quoting, such as length of script, where the voice will be going, how soon you need the recording back etc.
A guide to voice over rates typically charged for professional level voice narration work in the UK can also be found here.

What exactly am I paying for?
When you hire me to work on your project, you are paying me to offer you a premium client focused service. This includes unlimited communication throughout the process, a 30/40 second sample read of your script for you to approve before I start the final work if required, time spent analysing, recording and editing your script. In addition there is my ongoing investment in vocal, technical and industry training, equipment, software subscriptions etc…
What happens if I need the voiceover changing after it has been recorded?
In the unlikely event that changes need to be made due to my own human error, the re-record will not be charged for. If however you change the script content, change your mind on vocal tone, offer the wrong information on pronunciation etc, I will need to charge for revisions.
Recording and editing is a lengthy process and very few changes are a 10 minute job. I don’t like to charge for revisions so I do stress that it is imperative the correct information is provided to me before I start the job.
Do you offer any other services I may be interested in?
